Welcome back – Second Semester

February 7th, 2010

A nice warm welcome to everyone returning for the last semester for the year!

We have quite a few exciting events coming up this semester.  We are still working furiously to get everything in order and set firm dates, times and locations.  Some of our confirmed events include:

a) Welcome Back Social – Will be held during Week 2 at the Victoria Cafe.  Similar to the Wine and Cheese last semester, this will prove to be a nice way to get back into the groove!
b) CEO Saatchi and Saatchi, Kevin Roberts will be visiting the Management Society to give a talk.  He will be talking on “Making it in Today’s Post Catastrophe World”.  It will take place at Holy Trinity Church (on South Street across from Pizza Express) at 6:15 PM (for a 6:30 PM start).
c) ex-CEO Royal Bank of Scotland, Sir George Mathewson will be visiting to give a talk.  We are still working on a confirmed venue and time.
d) Management Society Annual BBQ will be held in May.  Always a nice way to start the exam week for the final push towards the end of the year.

We have a couple of other events still in the pipeline but won’t mention them until they are confirmed.

Keep in mind that the second semester is also time for the annual AGM.  We can’t be on the committee forever and will have to hand over our positions! Therefore, keep your ears and eyes out for a date and time to participate!

Looking forward to seeing you all at our upcoming events,

Andrew James Titley

Thorntons Talk

November 27th, 2009

Thank you very much to all that attended.

Despite the rainy, windy and brutish Scottish weather, there was still a very nice turnout for this event.  I do hope that all in attendance enjoyed the talk and the chocolates at the end!

Mr. Mike Davies was very impressed – especially with the questions at the end of the talk.  From what he has told me, he thoroughly enjoyed his trip and talk to everyone.

To conclude this wonderful event – we have decided to run a small competition;

Mr. Davies briefly spoke about some of the difficulties and dangers facing Thorntons over the past few years – how to break into the student/young person market, organisational reconstruction, becoming more profitable, etc.  If anyone would like to participate, we are looking for a maximum one A4 page letter of ideas, suggestions, and ways to better improve their marketing and overall business.  The top 10 letters will receive another box of chocolates.  Not only that, but your name, email address, and phone number will be on these sheets for those at Thorntons to see.  Can’t promise anything, but who knows if they like what they see!

Requirements:
- Maximum one side A4 page
- Add name, email address, and phone number
- We suggest a small bio on you (where you are from, what you are studying,
etc.)
- Must be received by 12 pm 5th December
- All submissions must be sent to at343

In other news, the Management Society is in full gears for our future events.  There is plenty going on around the society and is still an ideal time to get involved.  Our next event is SABS (St Andrews Business Summit) this Saturday.  We will be taking new members and selling off extra Thorntons chocolates to all those who attend!

Keep an eye out for our event on the 8th December – CEO Jack Wills!

Hope everyone’s semester has been going well,

Andrew James Titley

Welcome Back!

October 6th, 2009

Welcome back to all the returning students and welcome to all the newly enrolled students! It was great to see so many of you at the Fresher’s Fayre and Book Sale last week.  We really enjoyed meeting and talking to you all about our society and upcoming events.

This year will be, by far, our largest and busiest year since beginning the society.  We have a jam-packed schedule of very influential speakers and events for everyone to attend.  Our biggest aim this year was to have a variety of speakers from multitudes of different sectors.  Therefore, you don’t just need to be a Management student to enjoy being a member.  We have events catered to industries such as film, clothing, banking, advertising, chocolates and more!

Please send an email to at343 if you wish to be placed on our email list.  From there, we will send you email updates about the society and our events which you can participate in.

Have a great start to the year!
